Study with us

The group focuses on the engagement of undergraduate and postgraduate students, in collaborative research. It also:

  • Provides a supportive and interactive atmosphere, which stimulates students to develop their own research skills
  • Promotes research techniques and procedures which are quickly shared, and critical thinking skills that are developed through ongoing peer-evaluation of experiments and results
  • Normally supervises about 15 postgraduate students

Available student projects in broad areas

  • Application of omics (eg metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics, transcriptomics, genomics) to shellfish and fish health and nutrition
  • Microbial assessments in shellfish aquaculture (pathogen infections and mechanisms)
  • Histological assessment of health, stress and nutrition in shellfish
  • Application of molecular and biochemical techniques in shellfish and fish aquaculture.
  • Feed formulation and delivery techniques in aquaculture
  • Probiotics and gut microbiome studies
  • Bioactives from aquaculture products and their application
